In recent years microbiological and biochemical research has allowed for the determination of toxic levels of known synthetic and organic chemicals in both soil and water systems and these technologies are useful in determining safety limits for certain residual components deposited during the bioremediation process. However, many sites that appear to be thoroughly remediated have been determined to contain toxic levels after laboratory analysis. These require expensive primary and secondary treatment or removal of soil in an attempt to eliminate the toxin(s).
The problem with such treatment is that components or products commonly used to remediate do not have the capability to support complete decomposition of the known toxin. Therefore these give cause for secondary treatment, which often exceeds budget. The solution is to begin the remediation process with products that have a proven track record when used in a comprehensive bio-treatment program.
